Jacob Robertson works out of Lexington, Kentucky. He says of this work ‘My drive and passion for the ceramic arts comes from an excitement for creating. The ability to make new and interesting forms every time I sit at the wheel continues to fascinate me.’ Jacob will be our artist in residence from July to September. In this workshop Jacob will show you a variety of different methods for centring and throwing larger amounts of clay. These techniques will be applied to help each student push the limits of what they are capable of making, regardless of their current skill level.
- how to centre more clay with less strength, coaxing not fighting the clay
- throwing and joining stacked forms
- throwing on attached sections
- adding footrings without trimming
- applying these techniques to throwing tall and wide (ie bottles, vases and platters)
- a sketchbook
- your tool kit
- calipers if you have them ( they will be available for sale at the workshop)
- Batts if you have them
