Green Stories of Wild Places

Hand building sculptures with renowned ceramic artist Bev Hogg

Wednesday 8 to Sunday 12 January 2020

10 am to 4 pm

$750 (price includes clay, materials and test firing/s, firing of your sculpture is not included)

Suitable for:

  • intermediate to advanced students
  • anyone with enough experience and courage to challenge themselves and take a risk

This course combines imagination, skill and play, but DARES you to make a figurative sculpture that you have only dreamed of.

You will investigate how to capture and communicate ideas visually, aided each day by practical demonstrations and exercises to generate both ideas and skills. There will also be plenty of time to work on your own creations.

In this workshop Bev will show you how to integrate numerous construction techniques to achieve the results you are after while resolving issues such as balance, scale, expression, character and surface.. These include:

  • pinch,
  • slab,
  • ribbons,
  • coils,
  • modelling,
  • embossing, and
  • carving.

It is not just about form. Together we will experiment to develop surfaces using coloured slips, oxides and underglazes. These will form a palette of ideas to inspire your larger works. They will be a valuable resource to take home for future work. These test pieces will be done early in the workshop and fired to form your own library of surface options.

Please bring ideas, texture-making found objects and a sense of humour.

Those who have a project in mind will be encouraged to pursue it.

Participants please bring:

  • 3 ideas
  • 3 aphorisms
  • drawings, visual diary
  • texture making found objects
  • clay tools for hand building
  • banding wheel (if you have one)
  • paddle if you have one
