Clay Basics – Introduction to mould making and slipcasting
Sunday 2 & 9 September 10am-2pm
Suitable for people with basic clay skills.
Over two Sunday mornings you will learn the basics of slipcasting and making one piece moulds. Watson Arts Centre studio tenant Mark Saunders will take you through all the stages you need to know from mixing plaster to trimming finished pieces.
This workshop is an introduction to slipcasting and easy one piece moulds. If you would like to start confidently making moulds but weren’t sure where to begin this is the course for you.
Mark will guide you through all the necessary steps like:
- choosing the right shape and materials for making models.
- setting up mould walls.
- mixing and pouring plaster.
- preparing casting slips.
- casting liquid clay in moulds.
Over the course of the workshop everyone will make at least one small to medium mould to take home, with a chance to make more. The bisque firing of any finished clay objects will be an included in the cost.
