CPS OPEN DAY
Sunday 6th June 2010
Canberra Potters’ Society opened its doors at
Watson Arts Centre on Sunday 6th June for its 2010 Open Day. The annual
open days are always a
great opportunity to see potters in action and to join in a range of fun
activities and this year was no exception..
In the main workshop there were demonstrations of
hand-building and throwing on the potter’s wheel throughout the day. Visitors
were
encouraged to have a go themselves with many taking up the opportunity
to get their hands into clay. Outside, raku
firing demonstrations saw some lovely fired pieces taken home by
visitors.
In the gallery we did roaring trade selling
bowls for soup and many items from the Winter Fair. Outside on the
verandah the bowls were filled with a variety of delicious soups, just
the thing to keep out the winter chill. Many people enjoyed their
lunchtime soup listening to the sounds of music provided by a local CPS
potter and friends. Throughout the day Nancy Harrison of
Coffee’s On provided tea, coffee and other refreshments on the
verandah.
For local and visiting potters, Clayworks, Potters
Needs and Walker Ceramics graced us yet again with trade stands. This is
always a good chance to talk to the experts and browse their wares and I
know many people took up this opportunity.
With fair weather and masses of people the day was a
great success.
