CPS OPEN DAY

Sunday 25th September 2011

What a great day we had. The weather may not have been as good as we’d have liked but the enthusiasm shown by all our volunteers and visitors more than made up for the lack of sun. A huge thank you to everyone who helped out - throwing pots for the raku firing, at the working bee and on the day itself. There are far too many names to list - you all know who you are – but Ian Hodgson deserves special mention as does Agnieszka Berger for organising demonstrators. Soup bowls sold well throughout the day – thank you to everyone who supplied bowls and soup, and to the soup servers and shop staff who worked so hard.

At 11am the arts centre’s new studios and artist-in-residence accommodation were officially opened by ACT Minister for the Arts Joy Burch, MLA. The grounds looked great and the studios and residence are wonderful additions to our facilities. The four new studios available to rent have new tenants; the final studio is allocated, along with the residence, for our artist-in-residence program, which is now being advertised.

Special thanks are due to the former Chief Minister and Minister for the Arts, Jon Stanhope, for his passionate interest in the arts, which led to the initiation of the new studios in 2008.

Raku firing was a focus of activity all day. Over 50 pots were fired.

Many members of the public had a go at throwing.

Zoë Slee and Ashley Bauman were kept busy with the children’s activities.

Steve Roper demonstrating how to handbuild weird and wonderful animals.

These three visitors from the Illawarra Potters came all the way from Wollongong for our Open Day
