HOLIDAY COURSE OUTLINES

Hand-building/wheel classes incorporate learning techniques from two areas of the pottery sphere. As the name suggests, hand-building involves learning different techniques to form clay into objects by hand, eg pinch pots and slab building. Wheelwork uses the potter's wheel to form the clay, the object being to pull clay into a cylinder and them form it into a pot.

In wheel only classes (not offered every holidays) the student will spend all lessons learning aspects of forming clay on the potter's wheel. There will be no specific hand-building techniques taught.

The Mythical Creatures and Gargoyles classes (not offered every holidays) are where students can let their imagination run riot to form fantasy creatures and gargoyles. Generally, hand-building techniques are used for this but some aspects of the wheel may be employed as well.

Parent/child classes are hand-building/wheel classes where a parent, grandparent or carer can become a student too and join in the fun.
